This treatment 'tool' involves massage to the local soft tissues such as muscles. This type of massage is intended to be strong or firm in nature, with the aim of reducing sensitivity within the area and aiding the improvement of function and recovery.
As with other treatment ‘tools’ soft tissue manipulation can be used as the main aspect of care or as a smaller part of the treatment plan, incorporating other treatment approaches.
At Momentum Healthcare we guide the strength of this technique by how the patient is responding. If the area is very sensitive or tender then a reduced strength would be more appropriate, where as a stronger treatment would be applied when the area is less reactive or where this is preferred by the individual.
Often other treatment methods are used along side soft tissue manipulation in order to provide a high level of care and a speedy recovery.
